History: I-280 was the proposed name for Omaha's Interstate beltway, but the name was replaced a few years later to avoid a numbering conflict with the I-280 in the Quad Cities area. (Both 280s would have existed in Iowa, which is a numbering faux pas. Nebraska's I-280 was then renumbered. I do not know if I-280 was ever signed "in the field", but Nebraska highway maps from 1963 and 1965 suggest this.
